FIRST LOOK: Colin Farrell In Revenge Thriller ‘DEAD MAN DOWN’

Atticus Ross To Score Samurai Epic ’47 RONIN’

Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails and composing partner of Trent Reznor has lined up a new solo gig according to ThePlaylist. He’s been hired to score Carl Erik Rinsch’s massive Hollywood samurai epic based on the legendary Japanese tale of the 47 Ronin. Ross and Reznor won the best original score Oscar back in 2010 for David Fincher’s The Social Network. The pair also did an equally impressive job on the score for Fincher’s English remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. While Atticus is no stranger to scoring on his own, working on projects like The Book of Eli. This will be his first period film and could be a very interesting listen when it’s finished.

Rooney Mara Replaces Blake Lively In Side Effects

Variety reports that Oscar nominated actress Rooney Mara (Dragon Tattoo, Social Network) has signed on to replace Blake Likely in Steven Soderbergh’s Side Effects. The financiers of the film backed out when the unproven Lively was cast in the lead role. Which forced Soderbergh to look at other actresses. Mara who isn’t very well known has a bit of pedigree to her budding career starring in David Fincher’s Social Network and Dragon Tattoo. The latter earned Rooney an Oscar nomination for best actress.

Dragon Tattoo Sequels Confirmed

Deadline reports that Sony is moving forward the two sequels to David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Screenwriter Steve Zaillian has finished scripts for both The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest. However, Fire will end up getting massive changes to include Lisbeth (Mara) as more of a central characters. Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig are apparently locked in for the two sequels. David Fincher on the other hand has yet to sign on to return in the director’s chair. They say that shooting could start by the end of 2012 or early 2013. Fincher previously stated that the films could shoot back-to-back if they were greenlit.

It’s very likely that David Fincher will return for the sequels as he’s been mentioning his involvement in the trilogy since day one. I’m sure it will all come down to budgets for the two productions and creative control before his signs on. There is zero mention of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross returning but considering the buzz the score and cover songs did for the film. I would be shocked if Fincher/Sony didn’t ask them to come back as well. I assume the the big rewrites are also to further distance the Fincher films from the Swedish movies.

Dragon Tattoo Sequels Could Shoot In The Next 12-18 Months

TheNewYorkTimes (via ThePlaylist) reports while David Fincher hasn’t officially committed to sequels to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo they will be shot within the next 12-18 months. It’s not mentioned but it had been rumored the two sequels The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest would be shot back-to-back.

The only issue here would be if Fincher had to go back to working on Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. I’ve noticed one big thing about Dragon Tattoo that being the stunning amount of sets and production design. If David and his team didn’t already have production designs set for the sequels (which I assume they do considering they’re extensive stay in Sweden for the first film’s shoot), they would need a lot more time. Here’s hoping that Fincher quickly moves on finishing the trilogy before moving on to other things.

Colin Farrell & Noomi Rapace To Star In Dead Man Down

ThePlaylist reports that director Niels Arden Oplev and actress Noomi Rapace will re-team for Dead Man Down. The pair previously worked together on the original Swedish version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Colin Farrell (Total Recall) will play the lead of the film. The film will be produced by Neal H. Mortiz and his Original Films. Mortiz has produced films like Jack The Giant Killer, R.I.P.D., 21 Jump Street along with Farrell’s SWAT and Total Recall reboot.

“The crime thriller focuses on Victor played by Colin Farrell, a right hand man to an underground crime lord in New York City who is seduced and blackmailed by Beatrice (Rapace), a crime victim seeking retribution. Their intense chemistry leads them spiraling into payback delivered in violent catharsis.”

Yorick van Wageningen Joins David Fincher’s Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

ThePlaylist reports that Dutch actor Yorick van Wageningen (Chronicles of Riddick) has been cast in David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Yorick will play Lisbeth Salander’s court appointed guardian and it’s expected the pivotal role will spill over to the sequels.

The first film in the trilogy will hit theaters on December 21st. It’s impressive cast includes Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara (Social Network), Robin Wright, Stellan SkarsgĂ„rd, Christopher Plummer and Arly Jover (Blade, Empire of Wolves). The next two films are expected to be filmed back to back.

First Look: Rooney Mara On Dragon Tattoo Set

RooneyMara.org and RooneyMara.net were able to find these set images of Rooney as Lisbeth on the set of Girl With The Dragon Tattoo which is shooting on location in Sweden.

Daniel Craig Starring In Girl With The Dragon Tattoo?

Deadline reports that Daniel Craig (Cowboys & Aliens) is in talks to take the lead role in David Fincher’s remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It’s assumed the actors will be commited to star in two sequels. It’s odd that Daniel Craig would be lining up projects like this with possible commitments to Bond 23. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Craig exit the Bond franchise either before or after next Bond is made. Previously Brad Pitt had been courted for the role yet I feel Craig is better fit for the character.

Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Coming Dec 2011, Sequels?

The NYTimes has finally confirmed that David Fincher will direct the remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The film will be coming to theaters in Dec 2011. Brad Pitt and Carey Mulligan have been rumored for the lead roles. The only issue is that they’ll have to be open to return for two more films.

Speaking of sequels the same article has confirmed that if the studio moves forward with more movies they’ll be shot back to back. Yet there is no word if Fincher will return for the two films. It’s expected they won’t go into production until 2012-2013 so we’ll have plenty of time to wait and see what happens. Fincher apparently has on option to direct the second film and I’m sure he would be able to shot them both relatively cheap and fast. The two books which could become sequels include The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest and The Girl Who Played With Fire.
