Neil Marshall Replaces David Slade As Director Of ‘THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER’

HeatVision reports that The Last Voyage of The Demeter is finally moving forward as a new director has been named. Genre director Neil Marshall has been hired but it’s unknown if any of the original cast members will stay on. Previously, David Slade (Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night) had been attached to helm the untold Dracula tale which focuses on the voyage to London where the crew of the Demeter are picked-off one by one. Actors such as Noomi Rapace, Jude Law and Ben Kingsley had been involved but seemingly have left the project. Marsall is best know for his cult-hits Dog Soldiers and The Descent but his recent films such as Centurion and Doomsday didn’t impress anyone. Neil might get a little buzz later this year as he’s been hired by HBO to direct an episode of Game of Thrones that will air this season.

Marcus Nispel Will Direct Hack/Slash

HeatVision reports that the horror comic book film Hack/Slash is finally moving out of limbo as Marcus Nispel (Pathfinder, Conan The Barbarian) has been hired to direct. The comic focuses on Cassie a girl who instead of being the cliched female survivor of a horror film, goes around hunting and killing slashers.

Nispel is an excellent choice as he’s already taken on remakes of iconic horror classics including Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday The 13th. I personally really enjoyed Friday The 13th, as it was the best experience watching an American horror film in years. It will be interesting to see who will ultimately end up cast in the role of Cassie. At the time of it’s original announcement Megan Fox had been rumored. I’m just hoping they end up hiring Derek Mears (Friday The 13th, Predators) for the role of hulking Vlad.

Simon West To Direct Red Sonja, Amber Heard To Play Sonja?

Empire was able to talk with producer Avi Lerner about the status of the Red Sonja remake. Previously Robert Rodriguez was producing with Rose McGowan in the lead the pair even promoted the project at Comic-Con. Like most of his projects in development Rodriguez moved on to other things.

With the studio’s reboot of Conan The Barbarian hitting theaters in August it looks like they could be moving forward with Red Sonja very soon. Avi Lerner says that they are planning on shooting Sonja between Conan and Conan 2. I believe this the first official talk of a sequel for Conan and I assume Marcus Nispel will return to direct.

He also confirms Simon West will direct Red Sonja. West is actually a decent action director being best known for directing Con Air, Tomb Raider and The Mechanic. I recently saw the Mechanic and while it was very by-the-numbers it was still entertaining and had some excellent action scenes. I was luke-warm with the idea of a Red Sonja remake but if West is on board I’ll have to check it out. Lerner mentions Amber Heard as his favorite for the role of Sonja. I’d have to agree as she fits nicely into this genre and isn’t shy when it comes to R-rated material.

“We will definitely shoot Red Sonja in between Conan and Conan 2. We already chose the director: an English guy called Simon West.”

“We’re talking to a few girls for the role of Sonja,” he says, “but we just finished a movie called Drive Angry with Amber Heard, and I want to see her. She’s my favorite for the role.”
