Eight Actresses In The Running To Star Alongside Johnny Depp In The Thin Man

Deadline reports a bevy of actresses are currently in the running for the female lead in The Thin Man. They include Emma Stone (Amazing Spider-Man, Gangster Squad), Eva Green (Dark Shadows, Casino Royale),  Amy Adams (Man of Steel, The Fighter), Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids), Emily Blunt (Five-Year Engagement), Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers, Burke And Hare), Rachel Weisz (The Mummy, Bourne Legacy) and Carey Mulligan (Drive, An Education). The comedic detective story starring Johnny Depp focuses on a husband and wife who are socialites-turned-detectives. Rob Marshall (Pirates 4) will handle directing duties let’s just hope it’s an improvement on his previous films.

Another Actor Joins 300 Battle Of Artemisia

CinemaBlend has caught wind of an announcement that Australian actor Callan Mulvey (The Hunter) has joined the slowly growing cast of 300: Battle of Atremisia. He joins Eva Green, fellow Hunter co-star Sullivan Stapleton, Jamie Blackley and Rodrigo Santoro as Xerxes. Mulvey has also landed a supporting role in Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty.

Rodrigo Santoro In Talks To Reprise The Role Of Xerxes

While speaking with Collider actor Rodrigo Santoro confirmed that he was in talks to reprise the role of Xerxes in 300: Battle of Artemisia. Currently the only actors confirmed for the film include Eva Green (Casino Royale, Kingdom of Heaven), Sullivan Stapleton (Animal Kingdom) and Jamie Blackley. There had also been talk of Gerard Butler and Lena Headey reprising their roles as well.

Jamie Blackley Joins 300: Battle Of Artemisia

Deadline reports that young actor Jamie Blackley has landed the role of Calisto in the 300 prequel. Jamie isn’t well known but has had supporting roles in London Boulevard, Snow White And The Huntsman and the British series Misfits. The growing cast includes Sullivan Stapleton (Animal Kingdom) as General Themistocles and Eva Green (Casino Royale, Kingdom of Heaven) as Atremisia. Some might remember the original film being a rather large stepping stone for actors like Gerard Butler and Michael Fassbender.

Sullivan Stapleton Joins 300 Prequel

Variety reports that Aussie actor Sullivan Stapleton (Strike Back, Animal Kingdom) has landed the lead in the untitled 300 prequel. I’m a little confused about which role Sullivan has actually nabbed. Deadline reports it’s Xerxes while ThePlaylist says it’s the lead role that was originally offered to Joel Edgerton which had been reported to be Themistocles. Variety is even more vague and doesn’t even give a hint what the role is. Stapleton hasn’t had many high profiled projects since Animal Kingdom but has a supporting role in the gritty mob thriller Gangster Squad. Eva Green (Casino Royale, Kingdom of Heaven) has already joined the production playing the female lead Artemisia.

UPDATE: Jeff from ShowBlitz has confirmed to me that Sullivan is indeed playing General Themistocles.

CAST EM’: Iron Man 3

Production is about to start on Iron Man 3 as Robert Downey Jr. is already sporting Tony Stark facial hair during international premieres of Sherlock Holmes 2. The third installment has been talked up by Robert as possibly the best in the series. Stating the script is one of the best he’s ever read. At the helm is Shane Black who could be attributed to helping Robert land the Iron Man role in the first place. As Black’s film Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was a career comeback for Downey and showed studios he was ready to work. Shane along with co-writer Drew Pearce have groundout a solid script according to the actor. It would make sense since Black is best known for creating the Lethal Weapon franchise, which is still considered the gem of the action genre.

While casting and character announcements haven’t been made. Yet they soon will as the production date starts looming. I feel like I should give my two cents before the slew of casting rumors begin to flood in.

MY CASTING THOUGHTS

EVA GREEN AS MADAME MASQUE: We’ve been hearing rumors that Emily Blunt has been wanted for this role but I feel Eva is better suited. The French actress has had some success with Casino Royale and the underrated Kingdom of Heaven. It would be interesting to see her enter the fray of comic book films. She recently worked on Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows and has been a regular on the series Camelot. Her latest film Perfect Sense was stunning which again shocks me why Hollywood isn’t hiring this lady for bigger films. Green is able to pull off femme fatale convincingly which would be needed for the role. One thing that is seriously missing in the genre are strong female villains.

NIKOLAJ COSTER-WALDAU AS GHOST: Ghost is one of the most interesting villains in Iron Man’s very limited rogues gallery. The corporate thief has quickly become a fan favorite with his involvement with the Thunderbolts. Even the character’s creator hoped he would end up in the films. If Marvel wants to ground the third film this villain would help to achieve that goal. Also, while he does use advanced technology he isn’t just another carbon copy of Iron Man.

Nikolaj seems like a great actor to play the character as he’s both charismatic and villainous. The Danish actor burst onto the scene last year as Jamie Lannister in HBO’s Game of Thrones. He also had a great performance in the Norwegian thriller Headhunters which is expected to be released here in North America in 2012. Marvel has already proven they love Thrones by hiring Alan Taylor for Thor 2 and pursuing Brian Kirk for the same job previously.

ISABEL LUCAS AS MOCKINGBIRD: Marvel Studios has a longstanding history of introducing supporting Marvel characters in their films. In the first film we got Agent Coluson and a cameo from Nick Fury. The second installment gave us Black Widow and War Machine. While I think they should minimize new additions I think Mockingbird would be an excellent one. The SHIELD agent is a longstanding member of the West Coast Avengers and is known as the partner of Hawkeye. There have been rumblings that Sharon Carter and even Carol Danvers could be in The Avengers so a character like Mockingbird might be better suited for an Iron Man 3 intro. If they are indeed moving forward with both the SHIELD and Hawkeye spin-offs she would likely be a character that would need to be included.

Australian actress Isabel Lucas is best known for her extensive work on the Aussie soap Home And Away. The staple show has been a stomping ground for Australian actors to get noticed. Most notable cast members included Heath Ledger, Naomi Watts, Guy Pearce, Isla Fisher, Chris Hemsworth and Simon Baker. She recently played Athena in Immortals which was an action heavy role. Isabel will also get tough in the remake of Red Dawn alongside Thor himself Chris Hemsworth which comes out on November 2nd. It would be nice to see an actress hired with both an action and dramatic background behind her.

Eva Green Could Join The 300 Prequel

HeatVision reports that French actress Eva Green (Casino Royale, Kingdom of Heaven, Dark Shadows) is in talks for the role of Artemisia in the 300 prequel. The film currently titled 300: Battle of Artemisia is expected to take place before and during the events of the first movie. Joel Edgerton (The Thing, Warrior) had been in talks to take the male lead of Themistocles but ultimately passed on the project.

Chloe Moretz Joins Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows

Yet another impressive addition to Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows which stars Johnny Depp. Deadline reports Chloe Moretz (Hugo Cabret) has joined the film based on the horror soap opera. Chloe is becoming known for taking roles beyond her years as she was previously seen in Kick-Ass and Let Me In. She will play the daughter of Michelle Pfeiffer’s character. As the cast grows the more I have to Burton another chance. Even if I feel his last couple of films have been phoned in.

Diane Kruger, Jessica Biel, Eva Green, Paula Patton, Eva Mendes & Kate Bosworth Could Join Total Recall Reboot

It looks like Len Wiseman’s (Underworld 1-2, Die Hard 4) Total Recall reboot is about to find it’s two female leads. Deadline reports that the studio is talking with actresses that will star opposite Colin Farrell. In the role of Doug’s wife Lori played previously by Sharon Stone is being read by Kate Bosworth (Superman Returns) and Diane Kruger (Troy, Inglourious Basterds). Also in the role of capable and dangerous ally Melina could be Jessica Biel, Eva Green (Casino Royale), Eva Mendes (Once Upon A Time In Mexico) and Paula Patton (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Deja Vu). Production is expected to start soon in Toronto at Pinewood Studios so expect casting announcements in the coming days.

That fact Deadline is naming both Lori and Melina could mean the remake is closer to the original than previous thought. I’d love to see Kruger in the role of Lori but I think any of those actresses could pull off Melina. I’m just hoping there is more science fiction than previously stated. As Mars was an important aspect in both the film and original story. The remake is set for an August 3rd 2012 release date.

Michelle Pfeiffer & Helena Bonham Carter In Talks To Join Dark Shadows

Dark Shadows is looking to be yet another solid film for Warner Bros. as the Tim Burton film is set to start production in April. HeatVision reports that Michelle Pfeiffer is currently in talks to take the role of Elizabeth Collins Stoddard. Michelle and Burton last worked on Batman Returns. Deadline also says that Burton’s wife Helena Bonham Carter is interested in the role of psychologist Hoffman. I think if Helena wants a role she’ll get it. The impressive cast already includes Johnny Depp, Jackie Earle Haley, Eva Green and Bella Heatcote.

Eva Green Joins Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows

Deadline reports that Eva Green (Casino Royale) has been cast as Angelique in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows. A powerful witch who was alternately tormented and bewitched by her love-hate relationship with Barnabas Collins (Depp). So it looks like we can forget about those Dark Knight Rises rumors. Depp will star as Barnabas while Jackie Earle Hale and Bella Heathcote are in talks to join.

More Actresses Viving For Superman, A Batman Connection?

More actresses are joining Malin Akerman as rumored candidates for Lois Lane in Zack Snyder’s Superman. First off is Twilight’s Kristen Stewart who is a little too young for the role but seems to have sort of clout with Hollywood. WhatsPlaying has revealed more names which includes Rachel McAdams (Sherlock Holmes), Jessica Biel and Dianna Agron (I Am Number Four, Glee). Out of the bunch I believe McAdams has the best bet she’s respected and was apart of Sherlock Holmes’ success.

CinemaBlend adds to the speculation including Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim, The Thing, Die Hard 4) and Kristen Bell (Sarah Marshall, Fanboys) to the mix. Personally I like the thought of Winstead as Lois Lane because of her experience working on large action films.

What I’m noticing is that some of the names were linked to Nolan’s Batman films. Natalie Portman and Anne Hathaway were both linked for Superman and Dark Knight Rises. Hathaway would eventually land the Selina Kyle part in Rises. Rachel McAdams was linked to Dark Knight when Katie Holmes was being replaced. Biel had been in the list of hopefuls for Dark Knight Rises. So I would assume others who were linked could be involved with the Superman tests. The two productions are so close it seems like it would make sense for Warner Bros. to cast actors at the same time. Christopher Nolan would be involved with both productions search for actors. Expect others linked to Dark Knight Rises to be involved in the casting process.

Keira Knighley seems like the best guess for who will be next to be rumored as she was linked with Dark Knight Rises. She also was a frontrunner for the role of Peggy Carter in Captain America. It does seem like the actress is actively looking for a comic book film to star in. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Knighley also connected with Superman and Avengers. Eva Green was another name involved with Batman casting rumors and is in the perfect age range to compliment Henry Cavill. Green has proven herself capable of knocking it out of the park in action roles with Casino Royale and Ridley Scott’s underrated Kingdom of Heaven.

Have Eva Green & Naomi Watts Joined The Dark Knight Rises?

Marion Cotillard and Natalie Portman rumored to be in the running for roles in The Dark Knight Rises announced pregnancies. Knocking the two actresses out of the running. Now there is word from Collider that Eva Green (Casino Royale, Kingdom of Heaven) and Naomi Watts (King Kong, Eastern Promises) have been cast as Vicki Vale and Talia al Ghul but it’s unknown who is playing who. The site is running this as a rumor at this point but seems possible as casting should be underway for it’s May production start.
