Deadline reports that screenwriters Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are in talks with Disney/LucasFilm to tackle Episode VIII and Episode IX. Kasdan is best known for writing Empire Strikes Back, Return of The Jedi and Radiers of The Lost Ark. Kinberg known for Sherlock Holmes along with X-Men Days of Future Past. It sounds like the studio is really aiming to put the two sequels into production very soon with this news. We already know that Michael Arndt (Oblivion, All You Need Is Kill) is currently working on Episode VII while a director has yet to be named.

UPDATE: HeatVision has word the deals are done and the pair of writers will also be producers.

Frank Ocean And Rick Ross To Provide Music For DJANGO UNCHAINED

ThePlaylist has dug up some interesting news concerning the music of Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. Hip-Hop artists Frank Ocean and Rick Ross will be contributing to the Django Unchained soundtrack. They also mention that John Legend submitted a track to Jamie Foxx. It should be noted that Foxx is a musician himself so expect to hear something from Jamie along with Quentin’s good friend The Rza as well.

EW has posted a deleted/alternative ending to Thor which shows Erik Selvig (Skarsgard) speaking to S.H.I.E.L.D. agents/scientists to put together an experiment. He references the S.W.O.R.D. database which refers to the extraterrestrial arm of S.H.I.E.L.D. An organization created by Joss Whedon during his run of the X-Men comics. The group was oddly never mentioned during the events of Avengers so it could mean they are being saved for Phase Two films.

The two films that make the most sense is Thor: The Dark World and Guardians of The Galaxy. I assume (since Selvig mentions it) the group might be apart of The Dark World as S.H.I.E.L.D. which is obviously unable to handle aliens. Stellan Skarsgard role in the Thor sequel hasn’t been named but having him apart of S.W.O.R.D. is an easy leap to make. Guardians of The Galaxy is another strong candidate considering Peter Quill’s (Star Lord) origin very well could link him as a S.W.O.R.D. pilot. Abigail Brand could show up as well if the group does make it’s cinematic presence.

Japanese Set WWII Yakuza Thriller THE OUTSIDER Moves To Universal, Daniel Espinosa Still Wants To Direct

Variety reports that The Outsider has been picked up Silver Pictures for Universal. The WWII era film focuses on an American P.O.W. released from a prison camp by the Yakuza for him to work for the criminal organization. It was originally setup at Warner Bros. with Daniel Espinosa (Safe House, Snabba Cash) and they say Daniel is still keen on sticking with the project. Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy had been in talks for the lead but their involvement is unknown.

Sam Claflin And Eddie Redmayne Among Others Testing For Harry In AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

HeatVision reports that four new actors are testing for Sony and director Marc Webb for the role of Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. They include Sam Claflin (Pirates 4, Catching Fire, Snow White And The Huntsman), Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables), Douglas Booth (Noah) and Boyd Holbrook (The Host). Dane DeHaan, Alden Ehrenreich and Brady Corbet had previously linked for the part. Dane and Douglas were recently spotted (via CBM) alongside Andrew Garfield at Webb’s home. I have to assume because of his following thanks in part to his Hunger Games: Catching Fire role Claflin could be the most likely to get the part.

Stallone Hints He Wants To Cast Sigourney Weaver, Gina Carano And Michelle Rodriguez In EXPENDABLES 3

During an interview with BestMovie (via BleedingCool) Sly Stallone gave some hints to where Expendables 3 could be going. He gives the impression that they could be looking for new replacements which ends up with them training them. Basically a team made up of hotshots like Liam Hemsworth’s character from the last film. The next film could even include female characters as he drops hints he would be interested in bringing in Sigourney Weaver, Gina Carano and Michelle Rodriguez. Previously, it’s been mentioned Sly and producers are trying to cast Nicolas Cage (not confirmed yet!), Harrison Ford and Wesley Snipes as well.

The Expendables… they’re broken up, they’re shot, they’ve had it, they’re done. We have to hire new us, we have to find new Expendables, but there are none! They don’t make people like us anymore; they are all like robots. So I can go out and hire five young guys, but they’re the new army, they got drones and technology, but they’re not like us. Remember in Tropic Thunder? Just like those guys!

There’s another combination, and it involves girlfriends. Say I got divorced, say I am married to Sigourney Weaver, then she gets half the Expendables, she gets what I call The Expendabelles. So I need help and I have to go to her. And I’d like to have like Michelle Rodriguez, Gina Carano. It’ll be something like that, very different… The main thing is it can’t be about us! We’re done. We need to bring in new blood. And you bring in geeks and girls and women, people who are different.

Those are three names synonymous with ass-kicking female characters. Weaver playing the iconic Ripley and Rodriguez being the go-to-lady for action flicks such as Avatar, Resident Evil, Machete 1-2 and the Fast And Furious franchise. Carano had been a fan favorite when Stallone was casting Expendables 2 but ultimately didn’t get the role. Rodriguez and Carano recently worked together on Fast And Furious 6. Weaver starred in a action heavy role alongside Bruce Willis in The Cold Light of Day. So I assume these projects have peeked Sly’s interest in casting them.

We know that Carano is leading her own Expendables-like project with female members that include Zoe Bell (Death Proof, Gamer) and Katee Sackhoff (Riddick, Battlestar Galactica). Perhaps, that team could be included in Expendables 3 leading to their own franchise? I wouldn’t be shocked to hear Bell and Sackhoff’s names also included if that’s indeed what the aim is.

It had been reported previously the studio was looking to make the sequel centered around The Huntsman played by Chris Hemsworth.
